From its inception as Best New Course in 2014, Gamble Sands set out to offer a golf escape unlike any other. And more than a decade later, your unforgettable experience starts with two David McLay Kidd-designed 18-hole courses. Both are built on sandy soil with firm fescue grasses seeking — dare we say demanding — your creativity.
There are few things more enjoyable than waking up, grabbing a coffee or breakfast, and walking to the first tee. But that’s exactly what Gamble Sands offers with its three award-winning courses, as well as its acclaimed putting course.
Grab a handful of wedges, irons and a putter. Bring your friends. Hang on for a wild ride down into the valley of David McLay Kidd’s creative mind. QuickSands offers a rollicking golf experience over 14 par-3 holes that range from 60 to 180 yards. Putt from tees, play bank shots, search for that elusive hole-in-one — every kind of short-game shot you can imagine awaits in this walking-only amusement park.
Pure Fun. Always Thrilling. That’s the key to Gamble Sands. With this incredible Best New Course design that kicked off the resort in 2014, renowned architect David McLay Kidd proved you can have both challenge and fun all wrapped into one. He pulled that off by providing wide fairways that run firm and fast, encouraging players to use their imagination and creativity in approaching each shot just as you would on the world’s greatest links courses.
“We want you to play your best golf at Gamble Sands,” McLay Kidd says.
Breathtaking. Scarecrow will be many things to many golfers, but there’s no denying it is one of the most visually compelling courses anywhere in North America with sweeping views of the Columbia River. The second 18-hole course to open at Gamble Sands Resort, slightly more than a decade after the first, David McLay Kidd collaborated on Scarecrow with his design partner Nick Schaan in a creative competition of sorts between the two.
The goal was to utilize Scarecrow’s steeper landscape while creating an adventure that has its own identity despite echoes of the original Gamble Sands. Which course is your favorite remains to be seen.
